As the year draws to a close, here at Out There Events headquarters we are digging out our tinsel and mince pie recipes and reflecting on the year gone by. What a fantastic year 2017 has been, flying by as we organised a brilliant array of events for our lovely clients. If you are sitting comfortably, here’s just a few highlights from the past 12 months…
Starting the year in style, January begun for us with the launch of the 101 Embankment development by Ask Real Estate – with the launch for their new office space taking place on the transformed top floor of the building. We love turning a great theme into reality, and we were able to incorporate some fantastic elements in conjunction with Chinese New Year. This included Chinese themed firebreathers on guests’ arrival and a giant golden dragon. We had Chinese New Year themed cocktails and canapes, and branded fortune cookies for all of the guests to take home.
February was a busy month for us as we planned for our numerous awards events later in the year – with preparation well underway for the UK Heartsafe Awards and entries opening for the UK Energy Innovation Awards. We were thrilled to organise a number of awards dinners this year, including the Bolton and Bury Business Awards, Chemicals North West Awards and the MPA Inspiration Awards to name just a few.
March saw us return to theming the annual ChildLine Ball at the Hilton Deansgate. The venue looked amazing with silhouettes of London landmarks and the ceiling draped in union jack fabrics to match the ‘Cool Britannia’ theme. The evening included a performance from the iconic Heather Small and it was also an amazing night for fundraising for the NSPCC who raised an incredible £210,000.00.
In April, we welcomed a brand new member of the team with Gary Williams joining as our Sales Director. Gary brought with him 30 years of commercial experience, along with some questionable shirt choices…
May was jam-packed with great events, beginning with the Greater Manchester Chamber Annual Dinner held at one of our favourite venues – Victoria Warehouse. A fantastic evening was had by all – with Craig Charles getting everybody up on the dance floor. Later in the month, we were down in London working with Hansgrohe on their Annual VIP Retailer Event and their CDW Water Studio Party as part of Clerkenwell Design Week.
June saw the return of Mixology South held at Old Billingsgate in London. It was an amazing event which continues to grow year on year, this time with Paul Oakenfold getting the party started. We were also thrilled to organise the retailTRUST Midsummer Ball held at the Concorde Hanger hosting over 300 guests – the backdrop really added to the great atmosphere of the evening, with £50,000.00 being raised for the charity in the process!
We love working on events that are a little bit different, and July brought with it the opportunity for us to do just that with the launch of the stunning DS Official Showroom in Manchester. We have worked on a number of other exciting showcase events this year too, including the Geberit Specification event in June and the Thoughtworks office launch event in November.
Into August, and arriving with the sunny weather we had a new Project Manager with Ellie joining the team. With two events in her first week, Ellie was thrown in at the deep end – thankfully her 6 years of hospitality experience proved useful in helping her find her feet!
As September begun, so did our busiest season, commencing with the UK Energy Innovation Awards at their new home of the Titanic Hotel, Liverpool. Also new for this year was the Innovation Safari as a prelude to the awards, where new innovations – including virtual reality and Pepper the robot – were showcased. September also brought with it the opening of the Bright Building at Manchester Science Park, where to celebrate the launch there was a brilliant array of entertainment including an LED logo performer, a virtual reality cycling experience and a bee graffiti mural drawn live especially for the event.
October was full of brilliant events, kicking off with the Manchester Airport Group LUX Charity Ball at Victoria Warehouse which looked spectacular. Paddy McGuinness was our host for the evening, keeping guests entertained and raising just under £50,000.00 for CLIC Sargent. We were also delighted to be part of the Stockport Business Awards – a fantastic evening hosted by Jenny Powell recognising Stockport’s business successes of 2017.
The national Senior Women in Policing Conference took us to sunny Brighton in November, where we had a great three days running the annual event attended by over 350 delegates. We had some fantastic speakers in attendance, ranging from the UN’s Elizabeth Nyamayaro discussing the HeForShe initiative, to comedian Viv Groskop talking about the very British problem of apologising for apologising! Back in Manchester, we were thrilled to be part of a one-day internal conference for British Cycling at Old Trafford football ground. The event was hosted by the BBC’s Hazel Irvine, and we welcomed a range of inspirational speakers including Kenton Cool – the first person in history to climb the ‘Everest Triple Crown’.
With Christmas fast approaching, one of our final events of the year took us to the Macron Stadium for Bolton’s Got Talent with the brilliant Peter Kay. Hosted by Bolton News, eight local acts took to the stage, with the winning dancer Jaiden Sayer blowing the judges away. Mixology North also returned to Manchester Central, with the annual Mix Interiors Awards attracting more guests than ever before with over 950 attendees. The event also marked the 10th year of the awards – Happy Birthday Mixology North!
Happy Christmas from Out There Events – see you in 2018!
